I have always drawn and read.

A pencil or a book has been in my hand all my life. I was fortunate in having a mother that took me to the library and allowed me to read whatever I wanted.  I read a mix of military history, mythology, science (dinosaurs), fantasy, science fiction and comics. Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert Howard were my favorites in my early teens. I remember reading “Lord of the Rings” around 1969 and doing a book report for English class. I have read most of the science fiction/fantasy writers work over the years but had given up the genre in the early 1990s. International mysteries, historical fiction and the classics took its place. No matter what I was reading, I was drawing at the same time.

Work in Progress

Super heroes, barbarians and creatures from other worlds were my main interest. In the mid-70s, I sent samples of my work to Marvel Comic and still have the rejection letter from John Romita, art director and artist of Spider-Man. 40 years later I realize that if I wanted to be a cartoonist bad enough I would have moved to New York and worked till I made it. I did not, but I kept on drawing and painting and would go to science fiction art shows during the 1980s. The oil paintings on this page were finished during those years. Following  a decade of not painting, I began working in Adobe Photoshop and again started painting. The Tattoo style work was my first attempt using Photoshop and the Science Fiction is my latest work using a Wacom tablet with Photoshop. Work in progress is what I am working on now.

It is all fantasy and science fiction, but it is what I enjoy doing. I hope you enjoy it too.
